∗ The sun sets as you walk down the mountain path, holding Mom's hand.
Toriel: This... is real. *sob* I almost can't remember the surface...
Toriel: ...oh my god, where are we going to live?! I'll have to buy a house, and our money is probably no good here, and-
∗ You hug her.
Frisk: Mom, those are boring problems!
Toriel: Heh. I suppose with the Barrier down, I should stop thinking things are so impossible.
∗ But... maybe she has a point. It is a world of humans out there, after all...
Alphys: Row row, fight the power!?
Alphys: Ehehehe, you probably never saw that...
∗ You caught up to Alphys and Dad catching their breaths on a rock.
∗ He looks away from Toriel, and she reciprocates.
Alphys: Um... soooo... Undyne and Papyrus ran ahead. They're probably at the foot of the mountain already!
Alphys: ...OMIGOSH WE LET UNDYNE MEET THE HUMANS FIRST!
∗ Welp. Better get down there for damage control.
∗ You give Dad your other hand. He and Mom still avoid interacting, but they both seem willing to match your pace.
Alphys: So, uh... Frisk... is there anything we need to be ready for out here?
Alphys: I mean, it's what, the year 21X0 now? That's the latest date I've seen on the trash anyways...
Frisk: Hmm. I never really watched it myself, but I think Mew Mew Kissy Cutie is up to 11 series now.
Alphys: Get. Out.
Toriel: But we just did!
∗ ✳ ∗ ✳ ∗
∗ You reach the road at the base of the mountain. There are flashing blue and red lights, apparently police cars.
Papyrus: HUMAN! KING ASGORE! I HAVE DONE A DIPLOMACY!
∗ You, Toriel, and Alphys quickly glance around to find Undyne.
∗ She and one of the officers seem to be holding a sharpshooting competition across the road.
∗ A mangled quiche is propped against a log, full of bullets and spears. It probably deserved what it got.
Asgore: What... happened here?
Papyrus: WELL. FIRST, UNDYNE FLAGGED DOWN THE HUMAN ROYAL GUARD!
Papyrus: THEY WERE SCARED OF HER.
Papyrus: THINKING QUICKLY, I OFFERED THEM THE EMERGENCY SPAGHETTI I KEEP UNDER MY HAT!
Papyrus: THEY TRIED IT! AND THEN
Undyne: I was the lesser of two evils!
∗ Undyne pushes her way back into the group with a toothy grin, her practice partner following.
Undyne: So then I roleplayed what Frisk would do, and now we're almost besties!
Papyrus: I DON'T THINK FRISK WOULD ASSAULT AN INNOCENT PASTRY TO SHOW OFF.
Undyne: So I took liberties with their character!
Officer 06: 05 is calling our supervisor; it may be an hour before we can get somebody... qualified for the situation out here.
∗ About five seconds into the hour, everybody notices a limousine round a corner and come to a stop.
Officer 06: M-Mayor June?!
∗ An elderly woman steps out of the vehicle's front door, while the back door opens and- you have got to be kidding me.
Sans: hey guys. thought i'd save some time, take a shortcut ahead, and fetch the mayor for you. she has a sweet ride.
Papyrus: SANS! YOU HAD BETTER NOT HAVE NEGOTIATED A PEACE TREATY WITHOUT ME AGAIN!
Sans: no problem bro.
Mayor: The ride here was occupied soley by political puns.
∗ She faces Mom, Dad, and Papyrus.
Mayor: Mayor June, of Ebottown. And who is in charge here?
∗ Dad takes a deep breath, and makes what appears to be an unusually heroic effort to get his words out.
Asgore: K-King A-Asgore Dreemurr. Of- The Underground.
Asgore: My p-people come in... peace.
∗ The Mayor looks over Dad, Mom, Papyrus, Undyne, you, Alphys, and Sans, then casts a glance up the mountain, where the lights of other travelling parties can be seen exiting the mountain.
Mayor: So. The Barrier is finally broken.
Mayor: I was looking forward to this day.
Mayor: I was not looking forward to being the one responsible for handling it.
∗ Her gaze hardens into a stern stare.
Mayor: I've done my homework. I only know of one way that you could have dispelled the Barrier.
Mayor: How hard do I need to grieve?
∗ Dad looks utterly crestfallen. Mom has simply screwed up her face.
∗ Crap. They're both crying.
Mayor: Look. I made my judgement on this case years ago.
Mayor: And while I cannot approve of what I must assume happened...
Mayor: I can understand what choices desperation can leave you.
Mayor: The look on your face... is not that of an innocent person.
Mayor: But then, none of us can undo what has happened.
∗ Not even you anymore, Frisk. Looks like you could only SAVE while we were behind the Barrier.
Mayor: The look on your face... does betray regret.
Mayor: Which means, I hope, that the future needn't fear you as the past did.
Mayor: I offer your people amnesty. Please reward my trust.
∗ The Mayor is sparing Asgore.
Asgore: T-thank you....
∗ Let's give him a bit of time alone. Looks like he won't be getting up for a while.
∗ Mom is actually looking... relieved?
Sans: gee, lady, if i'd known you had a judgement speech prepared i'd have offered to let you borrow my material.
Sans: i've got a whole stack of 'em.
